The BRC's Ph.D. program will be unique in the sense that it would have rich coursework spread over 2 years so that even working professionals would also be able to enroll for it. The coursework would be conducted in the following format:
Every year four modules, 2 in summer and 2 in winter
For every module, 2-3 months of preparation time prior to the course, then 2 weeks of classroom instruction, followed by 1-1.5 months of evaluation.
So in total ~5 months per semester
A student with masters degree in the Philosophy and cleared exams like PET, SET and NET.
A student with PhD degree and want to pursue another PhD in
philosophy subject.
The PET shall be conducted subject-wise for pre-declared subjects
M.Phil. and Ph.D. admissions. The details of the test such as
syllabus, day and date, venue and time. etc., shall be declared by
the University. The syllabus of the PET shall consist of 50% based
on res-e methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.
The University may conduct the PET only for the subjects where there
are vacancies to be filled.
The PET shall be conducted at the centre(s) to be notified in
advance. Changes of centres, if any, shall also be notified well in
advance.
The PET should be conducted by the University normally within three
months of the date of beginning of the academic year.
The validity of the PET result for taking admission for M.Phil/Ph.D.
programme shall be for three years from the declaration of the
respective result.
The PET should be conducted in online mode in controlled environment
and the candidates will not be allowed to take the test from a
location other than those specified by the University.
Subject in which PET has to be given
The candidate seeking admission to a Ph.D. programme in a subject
other than the subject in which he/she has obtained the Master's
degree shall take the PET in the subject in which he/she has
obtained Master's degree and clear an Aptitude Test in the subject
in which he/she is seeking admission, specially designed and
conducted by the Research Centre where he/she is seeking admission:
Provided that both the subjects are from the same faculty. (means if
one has done masters in Arts faculty like psychology one needs to
write PET in psychology. If one has done Masters in Engineering he
has to write PET in the subject of 'logic and philosophy'.
For the candidate seeking admission to a Ph.D. programme in a
subject of a faculty other than the faculty in which he/she has
obtained the Master's degree. the rules of change in faculty shall
be applicable.
0.5476 : Where a candidate desires to register for the Ph.D. degree
in a faculty different from the one in which he/she obtained his/her
Master's degree, he/she must satisfy the conditions of 0.5473.
He/she shall submit an application to the Controller of Examinations
along with the prescribed processing fee for permission to do so
through the recognized guide under whom he/she proposes to work and
the Head of the concerned Institution through which he/she desires
to be registered. The candidate shall also submit a relevant
proposal with this application. The Research and Recognition
Committee of the respective a Board /Ad-Hoc. Board/ Committee with
recommended the names of two experts to scrutinize the proposal.
Subsequently the Research and Recognition Committee of the
respective Board shall interview the candidate. The above-mentioned
experts shall be invited as special invites at the Research and
Recognition Committee meeting. The Research and Recognition
Committee will test the fitness of the candidate to undertake the
proposed topic of research. The committee in its report will clearly
recommend the proposal for acceptance or rejection or resubmission
with modification. The report of the Research and Recognition
Committee of the respective Board shall be placed before the
Vice-Chancellor for consideration.
In case the proposal of any candidate for change of faculty for
registration at the Ph.D. degree course is recommended for revision
with modification by the Committee, such candidate will not be
required to pay again the processing fee prescribed by the
University.
